What to Read While You're Waiting for Book Two of The Môrdreigiau Chronicles
Just a few suggestions of what to read
Given that A River Trembles, the second book in The Môrdreigiau Chronicles has yet to be scheduled, I thought I would offer up three reads for you (future editor me here: who was I kidding??).
I’ve been loving it over here on Substack, finding new-to-me writers, and by golly, it was hard to pick just three (editor me: so I didn’t).
First, here’s one that’s going behind a paywall at the end of August, so put this at the top of your reading lists.
rewrites The Beauty and the Beast story as a rural fantasy romance in Under the Roses. It is both sweet and compelling. There are nine parts. Check out her short stories about an otherworldly library. I mean, wouldn’t we all want to live in one of those? writes compelling magical fantasy. I’m currently reading The Jarl’s Son. His heroine is chef’s kiss perfection. There is a prequel too, which is her origin story, I think (and possibly how she became bonded to a wolf and a white raven) but I’m saving it for when this one ends. (Or when he takes too long of a break.)I just couldn’t leave out
‘s Down in the Holler, a murder mystery involving a psychic detective. It is soooo good. I love Judith, the private investigator. It’s grim, it’s spooky, and it’s cute. Love the relationship building here as well as how the story unravels. In the outside-of-Substack world I’m reading
(highly recommend her series and she has a new book out!) and Sarah J. Maas’ ACOTAR series (I feel like I might be the last one in the world to read those.) For those of you who write, Gail Carriger’s The Heroine’s Journey is also an interesting read. There are so many more great Substack authors I could name:
and his Tranith Argan series (I am way behind but it is a coming of age fantasy), and wrote a delightful story about fairies and exploring her back catalog is on my to-do list. I’m also enjoying discovering my fellow Stardust Press writers. And I am just scraping the surface. Be sure to check out Suspension of This Belief (for fantasy story round-ups) and
‘s Lunar Awards and “The Pitch” posts for more sci-fi and fantasy fiction to check out. Oh and of course, Stardust Press is kicking things off with new SFF serials starting in August.Phew. That does it from me today. Do you have some favourites on Substack? What have you read recently that you loved? Let me know in the comments!
Thank you for recognizing other authors and giving good recommendations.
Thank you for all the support and shout-outs! I'm getting that slightly breathless, hyperventilatey feeling of excitement at all of the delicious reading possibilities here! Eeek!! xo
