Thanks! By the way, I got it started in the free version of Canva and then moved it over to iMovie to finish editing and do the voice over. You know, in case you wanted to do something similar for your book!
I can't believe you made the trailer yourself and that too in Canva. I use Canva a lot but only for images. I didn't know it can make movies. I thought you paid thousands of dollars to some company to get this video created. It's that professional.
I am currently writing non-fiction books on Substack. I have a 80% written novel which I want to start publishing on Substack at some stage. You I would like to get in touch with you get some guidance on how to go about it. I would love to connect.
Hey, it takes hours of searching, but there are free videos and I had to make some less than perfect choices. I also did some filming at a local beach. I used Canva also for the words on the screens (love that fire background). After all that, I took the raw footage (more than I needed) and the bits I’d made and imported it into iMovie, which is where I recorded the voiceover. The tough part was sharing the story in so few words!
As for the novel, I am a newbie at novel serialising. Check out Simon K Jones, Russell Nohelty and Writers at Work (you’ll have to pay to access her archive). Otherwise, ask away! I think my DMs are only for subscribers but we could also chat about it in my chat and you might get more opinions besides mine there.
Thanks for being so generous with your response. I am a subscriber of Writers At Works and have done consultation with Sarah. Thanks for leads to Simon K Jones, Russell Nohelty. I will check them out. I admire your courage to do all that videoing and voice over. That is one area where my skills are next to nothing.
That suitcase at the beginning of the trailer!!! There was one just like it in my childhood. It likely belonged to my maternal grandmother before it got to me. I used it to house dolls and their wardrobes.
The trailer is awesome, and I'm so looking forward to seeing/reading this tale!!
Oh my goodness, Leanne. This is fabulous. I had some hint of amount of work and thought you’d put into creating this world from your early posts, but this is exceptional. I’m so looking forward to reading. Congratulations!
Loved the book trailer. Made me look forward to reading your tale.

Never heard of Canva, but it’s an intriguing idea.
