I think it can be said ( because it was! 😂😁❤️) I lean into the "Universe" style. Below that? It's a bit touch and go, as treat each 'chapter' as an 'episode' of an arc. But hey, as long as people enjoy them, I'm good!

That would be the incredible worldbuilding you do. Your current serial “Death Whispers” definitely needs to be read from the start but if I had to categorize … somewhere between Limited Edition and Novel-sized Serial?

True. Death Whispers was a bit harder to serialize in the same manner as Windtracer Tales. But that's why I added the "previously" on those, to help a reader ease in. I considered that for Death Whispers, but it felt odd. Of course, now that it's going, it's too late to change! 😂But, maybe the next one!😁

I can see Limited Edition to novel-sized serial. Yep, I can see that.

FYI, I don’t like to categorize (shockingly) so if you wish to add a serial type to the list, please do!!

Thank you so much for the mention, Leanne! ❤️ This was such a great, clear way to lay out the differences (and I love the KDrama examples 😊).

Oh I can talk about the KDrama all day, but Esther in the footnotes summarises it pretty well.

I like any kind of serial where you are invested in the well-being of the characters so it keeps you coming back until the end

Yes, character is key. A cliffhanger is not worth anything if you don’t care about the characters. Very good point!

WHY oh WHY did you have to do this?!?! Now I have IDEAS!!!! *head-desk*. (Thank you, though…I had decided in my head there was only one way and I couldn’t do that but now I know differently and so have IDEAS…) xo

Great breakdown! 😄

I'm currently writing and serializing The Red Riding Hood Saga, which is a Through Arc Serial!

Ooh! Sounds intriguing. Do you have a starting point to link to? I couldn’t find one in your publication.

Hmm, I have a link to that index page on the bar under the publication title - but now that you've pointed it out, it may not be very obvious to someone first visiting my little corner of Substack...

I'll have to think about maybe pinning the index page to the front page like you and a few others that I've seen do.

Thank you for pointing it out and thank you for the interest! 😄

I looked on the app and the website bar isn’t visible there. That’s why I pin.

Oh, hm..., I tried to pin it, but it didn't work...

I may need to recreated it as a Post instead of as a Page...

Something to fool around with after work... 😅

Regardless, thank you so much for telling me! 😊

Excellent analysis! Being a cliffhanger-action author, I often scratch my head at slice-of-life serials and how they keep their readers. The breakdown of methodologies is really good!
